Choosing the right lawyer is one of the most important decisions you will ever make. To assist you in this process the Law Society of New South Wales has a Specialist Accreditation Program, which accredits a lawyer as a specialist in various areas of the law.
To be accredited as a specialist, a lawyer must have substantial involvement in the area of specialisation and have passed rigorous exams in communication, problem solving, client service and of course the law in that area of specialisation.
The Law Society ensures that specialists are attuned to the latest developments and changes to the law in the area of their specialisation by requiring a specialist to undertake continuing legal education in the area of their specialist accreditation. This is in addition to the mandatory continuing legal education that must be completed by all practicing lawyers.
